As the seniors have been preparing to start a new chapter in their lives, there has been much excitement in the air as they look forward to their final few days on the Island. Many share mixed emotions about graduating, and to honor this special day for the seniors, Aveed Shrestha ‘25 was chosen to speak during Commencement on behalf of the Class of 2025 as the class speaker. Aveed hoped that through this opportunity, he could reflect on his four-year journey at Loomis and share with faculty, students, and families about his final lessons and takeaways.
Overall, Aveed shared a positive experience as a senior this year, saying, “I think academically I felt much more relaxed than I was expecting, but especially socially, I felt connected to a lot of people this year.” He added, “This year has truly been the best one yet, with me really getting to branch out and form new relationships and friendships flourish both in and out of my grade.”
As Aveed marks this positive and memorable journey at Loomis, he decided to become the Class Speaker to embrace this “cool opportunity to speak in front of [his] friends and family.” He believes that this speech will allow him to share “what [he has] learned and noticed in the last four years and how much I was able to grow.” Overall, he was “so honored to have this opportunity and […] hope[d] to do a good job and represent [his] class.”
Aveed says that “my speech is based around time and the different cliches of time. For example, I use phrases like ‘everyone has the same 24 hours in a day’ and ‘time flies’”. He adds, “I have not fully completed my speech yet, but I have been trying to integrate many snippets of memories and jokes that can bring the class together on this special day.” As Aveed was also chosen to make class night speech as a class officer, he really hoped to “leave a lasting impact and legacy” and “allow everyone to enjoy their last moments at Loomis.”
Overall, reflecting back on his time at Loomis, Aveed shared an honest answer: “Growing up in a small area, in Windsor, I think coming to Loomis has been an eye-opening experience. It has truly humbled me. Not just academically, but Loomis has pushed me to gain a broader and real perspective across the world and learn about new things that I never would have. I think that Loomis helped me grow to become appreciative of these opportunities, and I hope the senior class will carry that same appreciation as we move forward with our lives and experience greater things.”
