The Loomis Chaffee Varsity Girls Softball team has had an incredible run this year with a 10-1 record going into Founders and New Englands. The team is composed of 15 girls: four seniors, three juniors, five sophomores, and three freshmen. They are led by two dedicated senior captains, Niamh Foley and Violet Peverly.
Captain Violet Peverly shared that their toughest game was against Choate, which resulted in a 4-2 loss, their only loss of the entire season. “They’re a talented team who have always challenged us. I think we have gelled together throughout this season, and I would be excited to rematch them with the chemistry on the team we have now,” said Peverly. On a different note, she highlighted that their game against Miss Porter’s was particularly competitive and one of the best of the season. Although they struggled at first, the team’s effective planning and constant communication brought everything together. “Our bats were a little slow to come alive, and it was a battle all the way up to the last inning,” Peverly stated.
Solen Trainor ’27 and Victoria Budarz ’28 both said that the seniors have made significant impacts on them and the Softball Program in general. “The seniors have impacted me by always being encouraging and being positive even when things weren’t going our way. They are very vocal and are very expressive,” Trainor noted. Budarz also affirmed the importance of the seniors, saying, “Seniors are role models of who I can be and what I can achieve in the rest of my time at Loomis and are a reason why this program is successful and why being on the softball team is enjoyable.”
Peverly stated that, after such a successful season, one of their major goals as a team is to hopefully win Founders or at least get pretty far in the playoffs. As a senior, the advice she wants to give to the younger players is: “Be coachable, hustle, have a positive attitude, and have fun!”
