The Boys Varsity Baseball team has started their season off strong, going into the season with strong willpower and high hopes. “I’d say our goal has always been to win the [Founders League] Championship,” said Jack Biskupiak ’25. Everyday, the Pelicans strive to be better for themselves and their team. Specifically, they are focused on defensive situations and getting in reps to better prepare them for their upcoming games.
“One of our team’s strengths would be our energy coming into games, [which] keeps people engaged…” Ben Biskupiak ’27 added. Many Loomis students are attracted to the baseball games due to the infectious energy these Pelicans bring. Everyone on the team is crucial and helps contribute to the ultimate success of the team, but Biskupiak ’25 says to keep a special eye out for players Jacob Budarz ’27, Hudson Schmidt ’26, Will Vieira ’25, and Brady Winn ’26.
“Jacob Budarz has been having a phenomenal season [and is our] best hitter so far. He has been a great young player for us,” commented Biskupiak ’25. “Schmidt has been playing very good defense, and Viera has been [the team’s] go-to guy when playing tough teams.”
Biskupiak ’27 also noted, “Brady Winn has been putting up great performances so far this season and has been keeping [the team] in tight games.”
With their ability to work as a cohesive unit and support each other through ups and downs, the Boys’ Varsity Baseball team chemistry is unmatchable. Declan Ellingwood ’27 highlights their excitement for their next game against Avon Old Farms on April 30th, as they hope to continue their winning streak coming off last year’s big win against AOF.
“The win last year gave us fire and encouragement [for the rest of last season and moving forward this year],” Ellingwood explained.
The team’s upcoming game against Westminster on May 3 is another important matchup as they continue to pursue their goal of winning the Championship. These two games are crucial for their shot at playoffs and they seek support from fellow Pelicans as they work towards their big day on May 17, when they will play against multiple teams in hopes of advancing and ultimately winning.
