Jeffrey Tucker is a beloved throwing coach for both the Girls’ and Boys’ Track and Field teams at Loomis. Coach Tucker brings humor and a relaxed energy to practice, and his dedication to the sport and his athletes is evident in everything he does. With his deep knowledge of the sport and his affinity for shotput, Coach Tucker often finds himself surrounded by enthusiastic throwers at practice, some new to the sport and others who are breaking records.
“There are so many interesting people that you meet,” Coach Tucker said when asked about his favorite parts of coaching Track and Field. Tucker has always specialized in the shotput, a Track and Field event where an athlete “puts” (not throws) a heavy metal ball as far as possible. It was his main event, and he now spends practices coaching the throwers through the specific techniques of shotput.
Under his excellent guidance, the Loomis throwers have had many successes over the years. Reflecting on his time of coaching three sisters who went on to Ivy League schools after their Loomis careers, Tucker said, “It was very impressive working with people who are that accomplished”.
Whether it’s at a big meet or a casual practice, Coach Tucker brings the same calm energy and steady support. He has created an environment where athletes feel supported and motivated to grow, inviting curious athletes to try throwing for the first time.
