Considering the exponential increase in daily media consumption, students use social media more often than ever. One student’s fame in particular has been increasing immensely on Instagram. He has built quite an esteemed reputation for himself and is gaining more followers by the minute. That particular student is Sachem The Bear, more colloquially referred to as Sachem, a happy, mostly hungry Bernese Mountain Dog.
During a delightful interview with Dean Dial, who happens to be Sachem’s lucky owner, I inquired how it feels for Sachem to be so famous. “I think as long as he brings happiness, I’m happy with as many followers he has.”
Sachem has amassed a total of over 2100 followers on Instagram at the young age of 6 years old. This highly impressive statistic shows he is a true wunderkind for the Island, even though he hasn’t taken a single class yet. Additionally, he also happens to be the youngest ever student admitted to Loomis and is praised for being a ‘good boy’.
Furthermore, Sachem is a very “friendly dog”, and enjoys the social pastimes of “sniffing and greeting other dogs”. Paradoxically, when asked about Sachem’s efforts to compete for the school’s attention against his fellow canine companions like Gypsie or Hagis, Sachem is also noted by Dean Dial to have the status of a “loner” and “alpha.”
What’s next for ‘Mr. Celebrity’ in terms of his future career options? Will he venture into modeling or acting? Dean Dial argues Sachem will become an actor with him having a “wide range of emotion shown through his eyebrows.” Apparently, he is a truly talented actor and is heavily inspired by famous actor, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
Dean Dial claims that Sachem refuses to be involved in modeling as a career option as there is not “enough food in modeling.” When asked what Sachem’s favorite food is, it was noted that he “loves chicken.” In fact, Dean Dial commented on Sachem’s unwavering passion for chicken, not once, but twice when asked, speaking in essence to Sachem’s hungry character.
Yet, there is a much more rambunctious side of Sachem. He is mischievous at times when factoring in his second favorite thing besides food: socks. Even in his youth, he was zealous for sock playing/eating daily. His hobby imminently started adding up over time, with it soon morphing into a serious addiction. At 6 months, this spiraled to surgery to remove a sock from his stomach, which thankfully was successful. Despite this addiction that became much more than originally intended, he walked away without any charges on his record and for the most part is clean from the scary-sock-eating world today.
Despite this rough patch, 5 adjectives one can always use to describe Sachem are amiable, kind, optimistic, joyful, and hungry. He is a miracle worker in the Student Life office, somehow dealing with capricious teenagers consistently every day for up to 5 days a week. It is highly recommended to book a 30-minute, 45-minute, or 60-minute session with Sachem (even though he has been rather busy lately) to discuss any troubles you are having as he isn’t really one to give much feedback. Lastly, please keep in mind that while bribery is illegal, Sachem does not mind receiving a few treats for a fruitful friendship.
