Dear Log,

It saddens us that it has come to this. After four incredible years of commitment, memories, cries of laughter (and of pain), it is time for us to go our separate ways. Those long Friday nights in the PHI classrooms were unforgettable. You gave us donuts, controversial articles, and superb grammatical skills. If it weren’t for you, we would have never known that the apostrophe before a student’s class year goes like this: ’23. Not ‘23. And definitely not 23’.

We started off as fearful Loglings, peeking into the Palmer basement and leaving with Ms. Hsieh’s jelly cups. Then in our junior year, we emerged into fearsome Features Section Editors with the Log style guide at our disposal. The day we heard we were going to be Editors-in-Chief, we were jumping up and down with joy. It’s been a year of Saturday morning meetings, a billion group chats, and days sitting with the Log computer as we went over Mrs. Forrester’s famously illegible orange pen marks on our draft copies. And now we leave as heartbroken Editors-in-Chief Emeritae. As we put down our scrolls (and hand the Log laptop over to its new caregivers), we will cherish the times we had.

But now, it’s over. We are tired of trying to change you. It’s like you think we can just edit your mistakes. We just have so many issues with you (in fact, six big ones this year).

I don’t see a future for us. Long distance never works. We will be too tempted to cheat on you with the Yale Daily News. This is for the best. We are off to better things, and so are you. Isabella and Ethan will be a good rebound. We will never forget you.

With Much Love,
Emily Khym ’23 and Samantha Tishler ’23
